Inspiration - The story of Hope

The journey of Sattvic Meals Foundation is inspired by the profound vision of Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON and the worldwide Hare Krishna Movement. His compassion for humanity laid the foundation for feeding those in need.

In 1974, upon witnessing children go hungry, Srila Prabhupada urged his followers to ensure that no one within a 10-mile radius of a temple should go hungry. With this story of compassion as inspiration, Akshaya Patra Foundation was created and began its school lunch program in the year 2000 by serving 1,500 children across five schools in Bengaluru, Karnataka (India). What started as a humble initiative has now grown into a nationwide movement in India, ensuring that no child is deprived of education due to hunger. Today, Akshaya Patra serves 2.25 million meals daily, making it the world’s largest NGO-run school meal program. Akshaya Patra has since served over 4 billion meals to school children across India.

Guided by this same spirit of selfless service, Sattvic Meals Foundation extends this mission to college students in the U.S., ensuring that nutritious, wholesome meals reach those in need. With unwavering dedication and community support, we strive to eliminate student hunger, one meal at a time.
